From Author’s Website:

She was an angel at the gates of Hell.

When Kenan, an incubus, finds a caged angel for sale in the Hellsgate marketplace, he sees her as a challenge. Certain that his skills in seduction will work as well on a heavenly creature as they do on mortal women, he buys Jahel, intent on having her soul as a novelty in his collection.

Knowing he must gain Jahel’s trust if she is to come to his bed willingly, Kenan treats her more as his guest than as his slave. When she reveals what brought her to the mouth of Hell in the first place — retrieving the soul of a young girl she was guarding — he even offers to help her complete her mission.

Though he has promised Jahel freedom, Kenan soon realizes she has captured his heart instead. And as their passion for one another grows, they find themselves caught in a struggle between Heaven and Hell, one that will lead them to the very edge of the apocalypse…

My Review:

While I read this book, I enjoyed the story but it really didn’t capture me. After I finished the book, I realized that I never really felt a connection to the story or the characters. Which saddens me. There was a lot of potential for these characters. I felt that the author was “telling” and not “showing” the story. I did not find myself immersed in to the Hellsgate realm. It was a bit flat. Same with the characters. There were glimpses of being more than just two dimensional characters but they were few and far between. I think the very end of the book showed the characters with their most depth. It wasn’t until then that I got a sense of emotional growth or willingness to sacrifice themselves for their love.

I picked this book to review because the premise intrigued me. I see potential in this author, so I will try another of her books in the future.

I give Demon’s Fall a 3 Horseshoe rating!
